Michigan Fishing Guide, Jon Kestner

Jon has been a guide in Western Michigan for over twenty years. He started fly fishing at the age of 10. Growing up in Gaylord, Michigan , he had great rivers such as the AuSable River, Sturgeon River, and Pigeon River for playgrounds. Jon attended Ferris State University in the mid 80’s. It was during this period Jon started his sabbatical in fly fishing, spending countless hours on rivers like the Pere Marquette River, Manistee River, Muskegon River, and the White River. He spent several summers out west In Montana and Wyoming, learning trout and going to every place that was known for great fly fishing. Jon was the head guide for a lodge on the Pere Marquette River for 11 years (Johnson’s Pere Marquette Lodge), and averaged 200 days plus guiding. The lodge changed ownership and he became a shop manager, general manager and head guide. In 2002, he purchased The Troutsman with partner Russ Maddin in Traverse City, Michigan , from known guide and author, Kelly Galloup . Jon spends 200 days a year out on the water with guiding, instruction, and the pursuit of great fishing opportunities. He is known for his casting in the Midwest and his ability to catch fish in any situation. Jon Offers year round Michigan Guided fishing on Michigan's Rivers, inland lakes, and Grand Traverse Bay.
