Fishing Notes:
Northwest Michigan fishing is in late Fall fishing mode here in North West Michigan with all the Fall like weather this year. Several rivers in the state of Michigan offer Trout, Fall run steelhead, Lake run Brown trout, and late season Coho salmon fishing both on fly gear and light tackle. Trophy trout opportunities are still available on the Pere Marquette River, Manistee River, and Muskegon River if your willing to put the work in!. Lake Michigan and Grand Traverse Bay are starting to produce Brown trout, steelhead and 3 yr old salmon on streamers as well as late season Smallmouth.
Taking bookings for the 2010 season!

FishingReport & Water Conditions:
The Muskegon river has good numbers of Fall / Winter steelhead! Lake run Brown Trout are also available in the river, as are the resident trout of the Muskegon . Winter temps have most fish sitting in slower runs and pools.
Look for steelhead to sit in slower runs as the water temps drop during the winter. Runs and pools located below spawning flats will produce good opportunities for trout and steelhead as water temps warm and the spring spawning season approaches.
Egg Patterns, caddis larva, leeches and other swung flies will work well. The use of sinking lines and fall steelhead streamers can produce a strike of a lifetime!
Winter steelhead fishing on the Muskegon started in late Dec and will remain good into early March when the great Spring fish start to arrive in great numbers. The best numbers of fish in the spring are in April, with good fishing well into May.
The water is a little above avg, and fish have been sitting in slower runs and pools!
Water levels: 2410 (above avg)
Water temp: 34

The lower Manistee River below Tippy dam is fishing well for stocked trout as well as some larger trout. Look for winter steelhead and brown trout with warming trends! Fall steelhead fishing started in mid Oct and will continued good into mid - late Dec. Look for winter steelhead fishing to be best with warming trends! Egg patterns, Hex patterns, caddis larva, leeches, and streamers swung are working best!
The water is around avg cfs, and fish have been sitting in slower runs and pools!

Egg Patterns, Hex patterns, caddis larva, leeches and other swung flies will work well. The use of sinking lines and fall steelhead streamers can produce a strike of a lifetime!

Heavy rains can slow fishing due to large numbers of worms that are washed into the river! Fish pass food quickly, and the bite is back on in a matter of days!

Grand Traverse Bay Surface Water Temperatures
Grand Traverse Bay Nov - Smallmouth in the shallows. Most smallmouth can be found feeding on the inner grass beds in 8-15' of water during the early and late hours of the day. Look for the best smallmouth fishing on the drops and heavy weedbeds. Goby, baitfish, and crawfish patterns will work best.
Fishing Report & Water Conditions:
Fall Salmon Fishing Fall & Winter Steelhead!
Our "Favorite Salmon River" during late Aug /Sept
Winter steelhead numbers are starting to drop on the Betsie River with cooler temps. Still some good fishing to be had with warming trends ahead! Look for the end pf March and April to produce good numbers of steelhead!
Water level: avg
Water temp: 32-33
Salmon / Steelhead / Lake Browns
The Betsie river has had another great salmon run in 2009, and should have a great season in 2010.
The Betsie and Platte river are known for great runs of Chinook and Coho salmon. Look at late Aug and Sept for great opportunities at fresh salmon from Lake Michigan. Streamer fishing for these fish can be fantastic early in the season.
This is a great river during Late August and most of September for chinook Salmon fishing. Days are limited and advanced bookings are needed!
Fall steelhead and lake run browns are starting to enter the Betsie River. Although these runs have been on the slow side the last couple years, the Betsie river can offer a relaxing opportunity for fall steelhead and browns with little or no traffic.
The water is on the high side, and fish have been sitting in slower runs and pools!
